Cigales is located in Valladolid, the capital of the region of Castilla y Leon in the centre of Spain.
The village of Cigales is significant for Laura, it’s where Laura’s mother was born and where her grandparents still live today. Cigales is a small village around 8 miles northwest from the city of Valladolid and with a population of around 5328 people.
It is situated in an area known as ‘la Campina del Pisuerga’.
It is the birth place of Ana de Austria, who was Queen of Spain and Portugal by marriage with Felipe II of Spain in the XVI century. Also Fray Antonio Alcalde was born in Cigales in the XVIII century. He was a catholic priest who was sent by King Carlos III of Spain to Guadalajara in Mexico where he helped to build hospitals and churches to help the population at that time. His descendants are still living in Cigales to this day.
Cigales is also famous for it’s vineyards and bodegas and we recommend trying a wine tour to enjoy a real taste of Spain.
The church where we will be getting married is located in the main square of the village. It is dedicated to Santiago Apostol and was built between 1535 and 1537.
Is also known with the name of Cathedral of the wine.
